Vanuatu-born Karl Smith, known as The Lyrical, really needs to be seen to be understood. With a powerful voice and an almost inconceivable range, he tells stories and stirs the soul with a sound shaped by island roots, reggae and hip-hop, layered with unexpected influences from The Lion King, Aladdin’s Genie and country music. The result is something you definitely haven’t experienced before, from socially conscious lyrics to surprising throwbacks and literal show-stopping beat-box numbers, it’s a show that stays with you.
Topping Triple J’s Unearthed charts seven times made The Lyrical the rising star of the Sunshine Coast music scene. The Queensland North Coast has always bred great new talent, and the hip hop reggae scene is no different, with The Lyrical following in the footsteps of Ben Harper, Bob Marley, Michael Franti and Xavier Rudd.
Having toured Australia and overseas, The Lyrical now brings the full band show to The Bruns this Father’s Day. Expect acoustic, roots and hip hop vibes that get you swaying and singing along, with a DJ keeping the night going after the set.
